Welcome to the latest edition of Herefordshire’s SEND Newsletter.
It has been a very busy half term across the county, and you will see some of the activities and developments that we have been working on in the news below.
I felt a huge amount of pride and a sense of collaborative achievement when I was invited to officially open Trinity Primary School’s new Special Educational Needs Resourced Provision – The NEST.
This space represents more than just classrooms — it represents Herefordshire’s commitment to inclusion. The name, Nurture and Emotional Support at Trinity, embodies our shared belief that every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive in an environment that supports them as individuals.
|
The NEST is the most recent provision to open. We also saw an expansion of places available in The Bridge at Aylestone High School this term and there is ongoing building work at two other schools to increases places across the county to ensure that our children with additional needs are not only supported but celebrated.
I hope you find the articles below useful – if you have any thoughts or ideas for information you would find helpful in future editions of the newsletter, please email localoffer@herefordshire.gov.uk.
I hope you enjoy any half-term activities you have planned.
Best wishes
Hilary
Hilary Jones Head of Service - Additional Needs Herefordshire Council
Children and young people with complex disabilities can receive support from the Children with Disabilities team at Herefordshire Council.
Referral for assessment for services is usually suggested and made by a professional involved with your child's care, such as a GP, teacher or social worker. But families can also request a referral if they think their child is eligible and would like to talk to a member of the team for advice and support.
Visit the Disabled Children’s Social Care pages of our website to find out more and to request a social care assessment for your child or young person.

 Introducing our refreshed logo!
This fresh new look reflects our ongoing commitment to collaboration, inclusivity and positive change for families across Herefordshire.
As our work continues to grow and evolve, we felt it was time for our visual identity to reflect who we are today - a vibrant, forward-thinking community working together to make a difference. The updated logo aligns with our new branding and better represents the values and vision of our partnership. You'll start seeing the new logo on our flyers, newsletters and other communications.
We hope you love it as much as we do!
SEND Transition Discussion Event - Thursday 6th November 1pm - 2.30pm @ HANDS Hub
We warmly invite you to our upcoming transition support discussion which is being designed to help families of children with SEND to prepare for the next stage in their educational journey. The event will include a chance to meet Sarah Gashi and Sally Campbell from Herefordshire Council.
Discussions will focus on how schools and settings can tailor transition plans for children with SEND and offer guidance on resources and support services that are available.
There will be lots of opportunities to ask questions and share your concerns and ideas. This is a welcoming space to connect with other families. Transitions can be a time of significant change for children with SEND and the purpose of this event is to work closely with families to ensure a smooth and positive transition experience for children with SEND.

Some of our Herefordshire Children’s Community Health services are continuing to experience a high volume of referrals and unfortunately that means children and young people are waiting longer than usual for their first appointment.
We understand that the length of time waiting for services can be worrying and frustrating. As a system we are working to improve waiting times for children, young people and their families.
Support is available to children and young people, as well as their families, who find themselves experiencing long waits for appointments with Health services in Herefordshire.
To access information and find out more about the support available, please visit the dedicated 'Support While You Wait' section of the Herefordshire and Worcestershire ICB website.
