Our School Governors

Making a difference

Our School Governors have an important strategic role and play a key part in developing and monitoring school life. As part of their role they are responsible for financial matters relating to the school budget, as well as:

  • Ensuring that good educational standards and practices are maintained
  • Focusing on the achievement of pupils and the quality of the curriculum
  • Ensuring that pupils receive high quality education and that the conduct of the school reflects this aim
  • Considering and agreeing the aims and policies of the school
  • Discussing and approving the targets for improvement
  • Appointing the staff
2021-2022 Attendance Register
  • Monitoring and advising on policies for Sex Education and Religious Education
  • Asking challenging questions as part of their role in monitoring and maintaining standards
  • Working with the Head-Teacher on the strategic planning and management of the school
  • Setting and monitoring the budget
  • Monitoring the performance of the school
  • Reporting to the parents and community on how we have accomplished our tasks

Governors’ Meetings are held on a regular basis throughout the year and cover a wide range of issues. The main agenda items focus on reports from the sub-committees (Resources, Curriculum & Achievement and Children, Families & Community committees) and the Headteacher’s Report, plus other aspects of their statutory duties.

The Governors contribute fully to the discussions and decisions relating to the strategic vision for the school, and bring a variety of perspectives to these debates. They ensure that the Headteacher is fully held to account in a robust way as a critical friend.

My child, with complex needs, has been at Westfield school for eight, very happy years. I have previously worked in health, advocacy and leadership roles. If I'm not running around doing jobs, you'll find me dancing or writing 'poetry'.
